Here at The Art Gallery you will be able to walk through the displays and see what kind of art Japan (or a small portion of Japan) is creating these days. Japanese Ranma Parlez vous Japonaise?

Ranma is a wooden panel with openwork carving that is used as a decorative transom above paper sliding doors. Most Ranma are carved from wood. This special Ranma, created by a good friend and his family in a small business, nestled deep in the mountains of Japan is actually created painstakingly from Japanese rice paper (washi), and laminated together piece by piece to form the final product. Yoshida Ranma also designs and creates several other objects of art that are highly regarded throughout Japan. The most unique aspect of this business is that there is only a single company in the entire country of Japan that makes such objects out of washi! You need to see this to believe it. Here we have a collection of photos of the art that has been created over the years.

Echizen Take Ningyo

The area in which I live has very hot, humid summers followed by damp, heavy snowfall winters. These conditions are perfect for producing hardy varieties of bamboo (take) that are used for many different things, one of which is the beautiful Echizen Take Ningyo or bamboo doll. Would you like to wander through the displays and see for yourself?

Japanese Characters

Japanese characters, known as Kanji (also katakana and hiragana, two other systems required to write Japanese) are often considered an art form. If you would like to see what your name is like in Japanese, then why not fill in this simple form with your name and collect your art?
