Heisenji SingleTrack

After riding the Heisenji SingleTrack so many times and loving it more and more every time, and alluding to it in various stories and reports, I thought I would show you what it is I am really talking about. Instead of having you read a lot of words, I would rather you develop your own impressions from what you see.

This is what I see when I ride the Heisenji SingleTrack:

Kamaburo Onsen
Kamaburo Onsen is a great place to soak those aching muscles after the Heisenji SingleTrack experience. It is a very old hot springs that has an extremely unique "dry sauna". When you finish the Heisenji SingleTrack, you will be glad I told you about this place. Believe me.
Climbing up to the SingleTrack
This is the road that you need to climb to get to the Heisenji SingleTrack. It is not for the soft of heart, nor the weak of knees. This will have your heart rate monitor screaming for a break.
Rokurosh Heights
Rokuroshi Heights. The cows here produce the milk that makes the best soft ice cream in Japan. A cone of this will rejunavate any SingleTrack adventurer. And the trip starts right where they sell the ice cream!
Katsuyama City
This is the city of Katsuyama. You need to come here to get to the Heisenji SingleTrack. You can also visit the biggest Buddha statue in Japan and a castle with no history while you are here.
The Kuzuryu River Valley
This is the Kuzuryu valley and it's river runs all the way to the ocean (behind the mountain range in the distance). I live down there on the left hand side. Can you see my dog Tug?
The Fabled Heisenji SingleTrack!
This is the Heisenji SingleTrack. It goes like this for a whole 10km! Mostly it is down, sometimes it is up. Try not to smile too much or you might get branches lodged between your teeth.
Tsukinowaguma (Japanese bear)
This is a "tsukinowaguma". I met three of these over the past two years. (I didn't take this photo)
The Nihon Kamoshika
This is a "Nihon Kamoshika" or Japanese serow. It looks like a cross between a mountain goat and a cow. We see these regularly. The last time I played my harmonica for one it actually stopped, perked up its ears and listened. (I didn't take this photo)

A flower whose name I do not know
Not sure what kind of flower this is, but there are
plenty of them on the SingleTrack, and all are gorgeous.

Except for the bear and goat pictures, all others were taken by me.
