How to Get from Kansai
International Airport OK, well as they say a picture is worth about a thousand words. So I'm not going to waste too many words on a big long introduction. Use these pictures and the captions (if there are any) as a "road map" to help you find your way from Kansai International Airport (Osaka) to Fukui Station. And remember: once you buy your tickets at the JR Ticket Counter, call me and let me know when the train will arrive in Fukui. I will then be there to meet you and wipe the sweat off your brow. One more little idea: once you get out of customs, etc. you can either go and get on the train right away, or you can go and find yourself a bite to eat. When you come up the escalator/elevator to the causeway that goes across to the JR train station, if you turn around and look in the opposite direction, you will see an area where everyone is smoking. Ignore that, but to the left and right you will see people going in and out of another area. There are many different restaurants there. If you are feeling adventuresome, give it a try. If you want some security, to the left is a Starbucks and you can go in there, grab a coffee, or tea or whatever strikes your fancy. They also have sandwiches, etc. that you could pick up if you wanted. Feel free to take them on the train. If you don't buy anything here before you get on the train, you have to wait until you get on the second train from Shin-Osaka to Fukui to buy food. There will be a girl or guy with a trolley carrying all kinds of neat things like beer, dried squid, canned cold coffee, seaweed potato chips, and the like. They won't speak English so you can enjoy the challenge. Russian Roulette if you will. Enough jabber, now go and get on the trains! I'll see you in about three and a half hours from when you get out of customs (or a bit longer if you can't get a train right away due to it being all booked up). Here are the Five Steps that you will need to get from the Airport, to Kamishii. Don't worry, I'll be physically with you on the very last step. I highly suggest you start at part one and work your way through chronologically or you might get a bit confused. OK? Well, put on your adventure shoes and see you soon! Part One: Getting Out of Kansai Airport Part Two: Getting Into JR Station Part Three: Getting on the Haruka Express for Shin Osaka Part Four: Getting on the Train Bound for Fukui Station from Shin Osaka Part Five: Getting to Kamishii-mura from Fukui And what would a trip be without going home, right? Here are the instructions on how to get home once your time has run out and you must leave our little Shangri-la: Part Six: Getting Back to the Airport from Fukui If you would like to go back to the top page, click here.
