Tetsugakusha no Michi
(Philosophers Walk)

This tour offers many stops for contemplation of life's little (and not so little) wonders. We hope you enjoy your trip.

Hokyoji Temple and Zazen

Way back in 1992 I visited a zen monastery in the mountains around Ono City, Fukui Prefecture. I was stationed in that town of 40,000 for three years, teaching English to high school students. In an attempt to broaden my horizons, I visited the zen temple of Hokyoji (Treasure of Rejoice) to see what the road to enlightenment entailed.

Instilling Energy

At the office we have to take turns reading from a book written by Kazuo Inamori, a very famous man in the Japanese business world. He has written many words of wisdom on his ideas and philosophies over the years. When it was my turn to do so, I chose the passage called, "Instilling Energy", read it and then commented on it to the rest of the office, trying to relate it to my life. This is a translation of what I said.

Personal Mission Statement (1999.01.30)

The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is probably one of the most rewarding books I have ever read. I have learned how to empower myself and become the person I truly want to be. Dr. Stephen Covey talks about a Personal Mission Statement, a creed or a set of beliefs that you write down and live. This is what I am doing. If you would like to see my personal mission statement, one that I am very proud of, please do.

Begin With the End in Mind

At this time we were reading Steven Covey's book "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People". It was my turn to make a speech at work.

What does "Begin with the end in mind" actually mean? Well, according to the Japanese translation of "Seven Habits" it means "Start with a Purpose" That is true, but there is more to it than just that. Most people have a purpose or reason for why they are doing something. Very few people just begin a project and not know why they are doing it. "Begin with the end in mind" has to do with "purposes" but it also has a great deal to do with visualization and prior planning; complete planning.

A Letter to My Brother, Bruce (1999.11.28)

Bruce got into some trouble due to a temporary period of instability. I love my family and want to support them in any way I can. However being on the other side of the world, it is sometimes difficult to do. I cannot be there physically for the family. But I can be there spiritually and mentally.

Two Worlds (1999)

A poem I wrote.

Burning the Midnight Fat (2000.05.28)

Work has me VERY busy these days. Thank Goodness for Radiant Health!
I am now a Jack of all trades where as just a mere year ago I was an educational clown. This work is VERY satisfying, but VERY demanding. See for yourself how much fun selling TITANIUM can be.

Beyond The Zone: Radiant Health (2000.05.28)

I have always been a scientist. Always will be curious. Always need data. Herbalife had a good idea, but could not prove it as they provided no data to back their claims. I eventually moved away from them because of this.

Brian Peskin, a Life Systems Engineer scientist, has written a fabulous book calld Beyond The Zone. This is, in my opinion, the gateway to the Valley of the Fountain of Youth. If only Ponce De Leon had read this book. It is loaded with scientific data and evidence, showing us exactly what we lack in our diets these days.

If we are so healthy, then why are we so fat, diseased, lacking in energy and generally ugly people inside and out? This is a question that, until now, everyone has truly been afraid to ask. Not Brian. He asks it with a vengeance. And then he goes out and finds the answers. And then he gives US the answers instead of hogging them to himself like the tobacco companies have been doing for decades.

Want to know the secret? We are no longer getting the essential fatty acids and minerals in our diet that our genetics crave. And with the pollutions and chemicals rampant in everything we eat, breathe, wear we are continually killing ourselves. A detoxifier is really necessary to make it all work.

Why do we take so man vitamins and exercise so much, only to find we are so burned out and unable to work to our full potential? This and many other questions are asked AND ANSWERED in Beyond The Zone.

Here are my comments. NOT a summary of the book. I would never be so rude to do that. Read the book yourself. Gain the wisdom. Do your Due Diligence. And you will be glad you did.

Here is a wild card that shoud get you rolling: carbohydrates are bad for you! Fat is good for you! Milk is bad for you! Meat is good for you!

Does that enrage you? It should because your eyes are blinded by the advertising over the past 25 years.

The Little Old Man and the Magic Stick (2000.08.26)

A heart-warming tale of a little old man with a heart of gold, and a young man on a mission. Certain to bring tears to your eyes.
